Is there anything I should be aware when performing wet application?
When you finish the wet application, please be sure to remove water completely by using a squeegee or an adequate tool. Otherwise, residual moisture may lead air bubble or peeling on the applied media.
Is any special treatment is needed when putting aluminum composite boards together?
In order to prevent media damage, tape or smooth seam lines between boards with aluminum tape or other materials. The sign board moves slightly, no matter how it is fastened perfectly. Therefore, when the media is applied on the board directly, the media may be torn or peeled due to rough seam lines.
What are the possible problems if the media is not dried well?
It may adversely affect the quality of adhesion of laminating film or inkjet media.
How should I handle the media during printing?
To deliver perfect print results, the media should be protected from contamination.
Do not touch the media surface with bare-hands, wear gloves when handling the media.
What is the drying time for printed media?
The drying time varies depending on ink type, ink volume, media, temperature and humidity.
The media should be hanged or placed on the flat space without piling at least 24 hours.
24 hours or longer drying time may be needed for PET media.
What is the difference between cast and calender PVC media?
[ Cast PVC ]
Granular PVC is dissolved with the plasticizing agent. Liquid PVC is drained on the special film and then dried.
≪Advantages≫
・ Films are thin
・ Hgih dimension stability due no pressure on the film during production process.
≪Disadvantages≫
・ This production process is not suitable for mass production and wide width media.
・ High production cost
[ Calendar PVC ]
Granular PVC is softened with the plasticizing agent. Clay-like PVC is rolled out to form thin film.
≪Advantages≫
・ This production process is suitable for mass production and wide width media.
・ This PVC film has stretchability.
・ Low production cost
≪Disadvantages≫
・ This production process is not suitable for making very thin film.
Can I install PET media on the resin plate?
We do not recommend such installation.
Acrylic and polycarbonate resins emit gas. PET media cannot release such gas, and hence air bubbles would be generated between the plate and PET media.
Do I have to laminate the media printed with solvent ink?
Yes. Laminating is required to enhance weatherability/durability.
What is Non-flammable fiberglass cloth (Non-flammable FF sheet)?
Polyester fiber is flammable and difficult to obtain the certification of non-flammable materials.
Glassfiber can obtain the certification owing to its non-flammable characteristics. However, the fiberglass cloth is easily torn by bending.
What materials are used for inkjet media
1. PVC
Flame-resistant and multipurpose media. There are many PVC media types listed as follows.
Cast or calendar processing media. Opaque or transparent media.
PVC media has a good compatibility with solvent inks even the media does not have ink-receiving layer.
2. Acrylic
High transparent and smooth non-PVC media.
Acrylic media has a good compatibility with solvent inks without ink-receiving layer. Colors are vividly represented on this media.r
3. PET
PET is non-PVC media that has higher transparency than PVC and acrylic media and dimension stability.
Ink receiving layer treatment is required for PET media. If inks are applied more than the layers capability, it causes ink bleeding. Typical ink receiving layer types are swelling and porous.
4. Synthetic paper
Water-resistant polypropylene resin film that is not easily torn by bend or pull.
Ink receiving layer treatment is required for good adhesion of solvent and aqueous pigment inks.
5. Paper
There are several paper types as follows.
Coated paper for indoor poster
Coated photo paper for photo poster
In general, paper is weak and has no water-resistant.
If the amount of inks exceeds the capacity of the paper, the paper would be cockled. In addition, raised surface would contact with the printhead.
