The Illusory Space Created by Digital Prints at Okinawa Kingyo Museum: Linoarqx Co., Ltd.

Challenges
Improvements
While strongly drawn to the potential of digital print wallpaper, he lacked both print knowledge and equipment. Existing design wallpapers either didn't match his vision or were prohibitively expensive, presenting challenges in finding options to achieve the desired expression.
The quick-drying properties of the UV ink for the "UCJV300-160" enhance on-site responsiveness. Combined with the "Artista," it enables wallpaper installation tailored to customer budgets. In addition to wallpaper, he built a production environment with enhanced expressive capabilities by utilizing multi-layer printing and gloss effects.

A case study of Linoarqx Co., Ltd., which has installed the UCJV300-160 and Artista Interior Series, was published in the sign and display industry magazine "POPEYE" , No. 278 (August 2025 issue).

The following is the published article in its original form.

Mimaki UV printers cover all aspects of spatial decoration

In April 2025, the Okinawa Kingyo Museum, a new experiential art facility blending goldfish and art, opened within the Okinawa Outlet Mall Ashibinaa in Tomigusuku-City, Okinawa. The museum displays approximately 2,000 goldfish and captivates visitors with its fantastical art spaces created in collaboration with a lot of artists.

The spatial design, where walls, ceilings, and glass surfaces are all adorned with vivid colors and transparency, was created by Linoarqx Co., Ltd., headquartered in Shimajiri-gun, Okinawa. Founded in 2016 by Takayuki Takemura, a wallpaper installation craftsman who also serves as the company's representative, it has since grown to handle interior design, signage, and artwork.

At the Kingyo Museum, they undertook the challenging task of printing over 150 square meters of glass surfaces. They utilized the high-precision printing and cutting capabilities of Mimaki's print & cut UV printer "UCJV300." By layering white ink with color, they achieved both transparency and vivid color reproduction. For the wall decorations, they exclusively employed Mimaki's wall covering media series, "Artista."

Linoarqx expands the possibilities of space in Okinawa, a region with its own unique culture and tourism resources. How did Representative Director Takemura, who significantly expanded his business scope from wallpaper craftsman, come to start a printing business? We asked him.

― The Background of Entry into Digital Printing

At first, I had zero knowledge of printing or equipment. I had been working as a wallpaper installer since I was 19, and even after moving to Okinawa, I gained experience at numerous job sites. But at one site, I was stunned by the inkjet-printed wallpaper I applied.

When I applied special wallpaper, the customers' reactions were different. I strongly wished I could make this myself. I immediately visited an exhibition in Osaka and inspected various printers.

― Reasons for choosing the UCJV300

The deciding factor in choosing Mimaki printers was the sales representative's sincere approach. Despite my complete lack of knowledge, he explained everything to me, even using diagrams.

Given our location in Okinawa, support was also a crucial criterion. Mimaki has an Okinawa sales office, so we could expect reliable parts supply and maintenance support.

― How are you currently utilizing it?

In addition to digital print wallpaper, we utilize it across a wide range of applications including glass decoration, store signage, and hotel art installations.

We particularly value the white ink and clear ink. It's great that we can bring ideas to life through techniques like multi-layer printing that allows light to pass through while achieving highly saturated graphics, or adding a glossy effect by applying clear ink over color to give visuals a textured quality.

Since it's UV ink, it dries quickly, and the fact that it can be "applied immediately after printing" is a significant advantage.

Construction process

Construction process

― How do you feel now that the Okinawa Kingyo Museum construction is complete?

It was challenging at the time, but even after six months, there have been no issues like fading, and it remains intact. At this site, we pursued the sensation of “art blending into the space.” This expression would not have been possible without the Mimaki printer.

This time, we used "Artista" for wallpaper installation, and it worked well by absorbing unevenness, making the substrate unnoticeable. With existing design wallpapers, we often encountered issues like the image not matching our vision or the price being too high.

"Artista" not only offered design freedom but also allowed flexible adaptation to budgets, such as decorating only part of a wall rather than the entire surface.

― Future Initiatives

We aim to strengthen our proposal-based sales approach, enhancing spaces with window and wallpaper solutions for remote islands, tourist facilities, hotels, and similar venues. We aspire to go beyond being a mere printing service provider and achieve significant growth together with Mimaki.
