Announcement about Participation in Consortium “ADAPT” Launched by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Mimaki’s 3D printer to be installed in MIT’s laboratory to help its additive manufacturing technology research
Nagano, Japan, December 6, 2018
Mimaki Engineering Co., Ltd. (Mimaki), headquartered in Nagano Prefecture, Tomi City; President, Kazuaki IKEDA, announced the participation in the consortium “ADAPT (Additive and Digital Advanced Production Technologies)” launched by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (hereinafter called MIT) as one of the founding members.
“ADAPT” is a consortium directed by MIT professor John Hart, who leads MIT’s Laboratory for Manufacturing and Productivity. With the aim of supporting advanced additive manufacturing industry, ADAPT will promote research and education for next-generation manufacturing technology based on AM (*1) technology including 3D printing.
*1: Manufacturing method of forming while adding materials, through AM (additive manufacturing), laminated 3D printer, etc.
“Fortunately, we are given an opportunity to install our UV flatbed printer [UJF-7151 plus] and 3D printer [3DUJ-553] at MIT to support AM-related classes and research activities.
Toward the achievement of the ADAPT vision of amalgamation and evolution of AM technology and digital production sought by MIT professor John Hart, Mimaki will continue to contribute to ADAPT activities through our inkjet technology and mass customization printing solutions. Furthermore, we will feed back synergistic elements gained through ADAPT activities to future product development. The “ADAPT” founding members held a kick-off meeting at the International Trade Fair for the Cutting-Edge Technology called “Formnext” held in Frankfurt, Germany in November and are scheduled to have a next meeting at MIT in Spring, 2019.
