Nagano, Japan, September 4, 2024

Mimaki Engineering Co., Ltd. (Head office: Tomi-shi, Nagano, Pref.; President: Kazuaki Ikeda), specializing in industrial inkjet printers, cutting plotters and 3D printers, is to announce the release of TS330-3200DS, a 3.2m wide Roll to Roll inkjet printer that can output both direct sublimation printing and sublimation transfer printing* for large format soft sign applications and home and textile markets. The TS330-3200DS will be exhibited for the first time in world wide at the "Printing United 2024 (Las Vegas, USA)" to be held from September 10, 2024.

* Direct sublimation printing…Printing method in which dye-sublimation ink is printed directly on the fabric and then colored by heat processing.
Dye-sublimation transfer printing…A printing method in which dye-sublimation ink is pre-printed on special transfer paper, which is then layered on fabric and heat-transferred.

Commercial and information signs at exhibition halls and commercial facilities are required to be visible from a distance of several tens of meters, so large signs must be mounted at high elevations (Fig 1). Fabric signs (soft signs) made of lightweight fabric are used to prevent danger to the surrounding environment and human bodies from falling or collapsing signboards. In addition, large fabric substrates of 3m or more in width, which do not require difficult laminating work and can be installed seamlessly, are widely distributed in the sign graphics market. Furthermore, they can be folded compactly for transportation and storage, making them easy to distribute and use in remote areas.

Fig 1. Example of large format fabric sign applications

Since launching a 3.2m wide direct sublimation inkjet printer for soft signage applications in 2010, we have led the digitalization of that market. In addition, with the global interior decoration market expected to grow steadily through 2030 and the growing need for creative decorative products, the home textile market is expected to see an increase in demand for large interior fabrics such as sofa and bed covers and curtains, which are custom designed and produced by consumers themselves from a single piece. On-demand demand is expected to increase.

Fig 2. Interior Fabric Application Example

The "TS330-3200DS" is a hybrid printer that supports both direct printing on fabrics and sublimation transfer paper printing up to 3.2 m wide. In addition to soft sign production, in which direct printing allows the ink printed on the fabric to penetrate to the reverse side for a double-sided visible effect, interior fabrics can be produced by sublimation transfer printing on thick fabrics or interior fabrics that are stretchable and unsuitable for direct printing. The new system enables the creation of a total space with soft signs and interior fabric prints for large facilities as well as small facilities such as exhibition booths, stores, and offices, thereby broadening the range of proposals for customers who have mainly manufactured soft signs.

TS330-3200DS Key Features

Exhibition overview

Name : Printing United 2024
Period : September 10th ~ 12th 2024
Venue : Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV USA
Stand : C1737

Main Features

1. Hybrid printer offering direct printing on fabric and stable printing on sublimation transfer paper with a single unit

The printer is equipped with the optimum printing mechanism for each substrate material, fabric and sublimation transfer paper, which can be switched in real time by the operator to achieve short-run, high-mix production.
For direct printing on fabrics, the printer is equipped with a "spacer" that prevents ink stains on the backside of the fabric and a "tension roller" that enables stable fabric transport (Fig 3), thereby minimizing sagging of the fabric for stable output of sharp image quality.

For transfer paper printing, a removable platen (print surface) is mounted (Fig 4) to reduce transfer paper wrinkles in the printing section and reduce substrate waste due to head friction even in long print runs.

2. Beautiful gradation and high density prints with our unique imaging technology

The 330 Engine, a high-resolution, high-definition print head used in our flagship graphic printers, is equipped with our proprietary imaging technology to achieve beautiful gradations and high-density printing.
