With UV-DTF, You Can Print on Anything, Anywhere! The Ideal Solution for Reducing Outsourcing in Goods and Sign Production: Wacomms Co., Ltd.

Challenges
Improvements
As the company expanded into signage and novelty goods, outsourcing increased. To reduce reliance on external partners without making a large investment in multiple machines, it needed a more efficient and flexible production system.
With the UJV300DTF-75, the company can decorate a wide range of materials, including acrylic, stainless steel, glass, wood, and synthetic leather, as well as curved and complex shapes. This has expanded in-house production from goods to small-scale signage and window applications, reducing outsourcing and creating new business opportunities.

With UV-DTF, You Can Print on Anything, Anywhere! The Ideal Solution for Reducing Outsourcing in Goods and Sign Production
―― The First Company in Tohoku to Introduce the UJV300DTF-75

Founded in 2021 in Koriyama, Fukushima, Wacomms specializes in OA equipment and information security products. President and Representative Director Shunsuke Yaginuma established the company as a community-focused provider offering attentive after-sales support, drawing on his previous experience. Today, Wacomms also produces business cards, flyers, uniforms, and other items. Its key strength is providing startups with comprehensive support, from office IT equipment and logo design to promotional goods.

As its offerings expanded to include signage, window graphics, novelty goods, and other products, Wacomms increasingly relied on outsourcing to partner companies. While exploring ways to bring more production in-house, President Yaginuma discovered Mimaki’s UV-DTF printer, the UJV300DTF-75. Seeing its potential to handle jobs that do not require material processing entirely in-house, Wacomms became the first company in Tohoku to install the printer in August 2025. We spoke with President Yaginuma about why he sees the UJV300DTF-75 as the ideal solution for reducing outsourcing and why he has high expectations for "DTF" technology.

― First, could you tell us how you first learned about UV-DTF and what led you to introduce the UJV300DTF-75?

I first learned about UV-DTF about a year ago through overseas social media. Compared with conventional flatbed UV printers, I found it much more flexible. Since it can be used with a wide range of materials, I saw it as ideal for expanding our business from BtoB to BtoC.

I was concerned about after-sales support for overseas products, but when I heard Mimaki would launch a UV-DTF printer in June, I quickly decided, "This is the one." That was largely because we had introduced the TxF150-75 DTF printer in 2023 and had received prompt support, including same-day responses, giving us confidence that we would not be left struggling with machine trouble.

Our experience with the TxF150-75 had also convinced us of the advantages of DTF technology. When I saw the UJV300DTF-75, I got the impression that DTF technology for apparel had been developed for goods applications.

― So, you see DTF and UV-DTF as part of the same category.

We previously used garment printers for apparel, but were dissatisfied with their slow printing speed and high running costs. After switching to the TxF150-75 DTF printer two years ago, those issues were quickly resolved. Productivity and profit margins improved, along with quality such as color reproduction, and customers became much more satisfied with the results. That experience convinced us of the advantages of DTF.

Specifically, garment printers and flatbed UV printers cannot print on materials that cannot be loaded onto the machine. With "DTF," however, there are far fewer restrictions on either the material or where the design can be applied. I believe this freedom to "print on anything, anywhere" is a key advantage shared by both DTF and UV-DTF.

For UV-DTF, we initially expected it to work well on materials such as acrylic, stainless steel, and glass, but the ink also adheres beautifully to wood and synthetic leather. It may sound surprising, but I was even able to apply the transfer sheet to a thin sheet of paper. Going forward, I would like to take full advantage of the strengths of "DTF" —its ability to handle everything from large items like motorcycle seats to small objects such as commemorative golf balls.

Since introducing the TxF150-75 DTF printer in 2023, the company has seen a significant improvement in profit margins for its apparel business.

― The UJV300DTF-75 you introduced is the first unit installed in the Tohoku region. How do you feel about that?

I am very pleased that we were the first in Tohoku to introduce the machine. Since then, nearby companies considering the UJV300DTF-75 have asked us not only for samples but also for actual production work. It has made me realize just how much interest there is in this printer.

To further expand in-house production, we had also considered introducing a flatbed UV printer. However, without a laser cutter, we would still have to rely on outsourcing, while investing in both machines would cost tens of millions of yen with no guarantee of enough work to justify it. Given these long-standing concerns, the UJV300DTF-75 was very attractive in terms of cost. Since it also enables us to bring not only goods production but also small-scale signage and window graphics in-house, there was little reason to hesitate.

― What kinds of products have you created with the UJV300DTF-75, and how have customers responded?

Inspired by one of Mimaki’s videos, we immediately tried making a miniature wooden skateboard. It is commonly called a "fingerboard," and what is great is that it can flexibly handle curved and irregular shapes like this. We have many customers who are interested in subculture-related products, so it really inspires us to take on unique and exciting creative projects.

We have delivered items such as keychains, cups, and ballpoint pens, but the product that received the best response was a fully wrapped champagne bottle. A restaurant praised it for its premium, paint-like finish. Since there are no visible edges, it does not look like a sticker, which helped create a more premium appearance.

We have received similar feedback on mugs, with many customers describing them as having a "professional finish." In reality, we are simply applying and peeling off the printed transfer film, so it is almost embarrassing to receive such praise. I also feel that the UJV300DTF-75’s excellent color reproduction has contributed to the positive response from customers.

― Are there any other machines you are considering introducing in the future?

We are considering introducing the JV200 Series eco-solvent printer. Its cost performance is very attractive, and I think it would be ideal for bringing outdoor signage production in-house. Mimaki is also well known for the vivid color reproduction that signage requires.

Once you experience Mimaki’s strong support, it is hard to consider anything else. For example, when a service technician visits, they do more than simply repair the machine—they also advise us on more efficient printing methods. I have been extremely satisfied with that level of support.

― Finally, could you tell us about your plans for the future?

We have launched a new brand called "NUNONO," covering everything from design and printing to embroidery and novelty goods. By attracting consumers from social media to our e-commerce site, we aim to expand our BtoC business and grow goods-related sales, which currently account for about 20% of total revenue.

Our goal is for UV-DTF and DTF to generate 60% of total sales. With paperless offices and remote work expanding rapidly, relying mainly on OA equipment carries some uncertainty. Within five years, we hope sales generated by our two "DTF" printers will surpass those from OA equipment.
