Mimaki Engineering Co., Ltd. (Headquartered in Nagano Prefecture, Tomi City; President, Kazuaki IKEDA), announced the release of a Roll to Roll UV-curable inkjet printer "UJV100-160" with high quality and stable operation, available in limited areas from March 2020.
With two newly developed heads, the UJV100-160 has pursued high quality, high productivity, and stable operation as a UV-curable inkjet printer. Considering environmental issues and regulations around the globe, it adopts VOC (Volatile Organic Chemicals)-free UV-curable ink. Because the ink is cured instantly when UV light is irradiated after printing, the drying time that water-based or solvent ink requires is no longer needed. Also, the UV-curable ink can widely support commercially available media such as paper with no acceptance layer, PET film, and fabric, contributing to material cost reduction.
The UV-curable ink mounted on this printer is our newly developed "LUS-210", which has six types: C, M, Y, K, W, and Cl*1. For ink set, there are three selectable variations: CMYK, CMYK+W, and CMYK+WCl. A combination of a white ink with superior concealing capability and the spot color ink of a shiny clear ink allows you to use this printer in various applications, from printing on transparent/colored media to highly creative varnish print.
In addition to NCU (Nozzle Check Unit) *2, NRS (Nozzle Recovery System) *3, and MAPS4 (Mimaki Advanced Pass System) *4 functions that enable stable and high-quality print, a new feature DAS (Dot Adjustment System) is also provided. Thanks to the DAS, conventional manual dot position correction and feeding amount correction are automated, reducing the burden on operators.
The UJV100-160 combines technologies of Mimaki for higher image quality, more stable operation, higher productivity, and a higher degree of usability, as a competitive entry-model UV-curable inkjet printer.

*2 NCU: A function that automatically detects the status of nozzles using the sensor, and performs auto cleaning when a missing nozzle is found
*3 NRS: A function that automatically replaces defective nozzles with other nozzles if there is a problem left unsolved by the nozzle cleaning, and ensures uninterrupted printing with stable image quality

1. Latest features that achieve Mimaki quality
Dot position /Feeding amount auto correcting function "DAS"
Conventional visual and manual drawing adjustment (dot position correction and feeding correction) is automated. By saving operators time and effort needed for such adjustment, variation in adjustment is prevented.
Mimaki technology that enables stable and high-quality print
Since pass boundaries generally become straight, slight misalignment results in banding or uneven color. The "MAPS4 (Mimaki Advanced Pass System 4)" functionality provides gradation to printed pass boundaries and reduces banding and uneven color, achieving a beautiful printing result.
Because printing pass boundaries are faded in gradation, a beautiful image quality is ensured by reducing banding and uneven color.
Banding occurs at pass boundaries. Image quality is damaged seriously because horizontal streaks and uneven color printing are brought about.
NCU & NRS automatically detects missing nozzles and performs recovery
NCU (Nozzle Check Unit) detects the status of nozzles automatically. When the NCU detects a missing nozzle, it automatically performs cleaning. If cleaning does not solve the problem, NRS (Nozzle Recovery System) automatically replaces the defective nozzles with other nozzles, which enables users to continue their operation without waiting for service personnel.
2. High productivity at a competitive price
High-speed printing at a maximum of 23m²/h
Because no drying time is required, it is possible to perform installation or lamination immediately after printing.
Because UV-curable ink is cured instantly by irradiating UV (ultraviolet) light immediately after printing, a drying process is not needed. Post-processing and sign applying are possible immediately after printing, which shortens production time and improves productivity, allowing you to promptly handle orders of short delivery time.
3. Capability of supporting various media types and value-added prints, achieved by using UV-curable ink
Print on a wide variety of materials, including not only PVC and tarpaulin but also paper with no acceptance layer, PET film, and fabric, is enabled. Value-added print such as two-layer print, in which white ink is used for transparent PET film, and varnish print using clear ink, can also be handled.
